Ingredients
Scale
Ingredients
- 3 large avocados
- 3 Tbsp lime juice, freshly squeezed from 1 1/2 limes
- 1 medium tomato, seeded and diced
- 1/2 white onion, finely chopped
- 1/2 cup cilantro, from 1/2 bunch
- 2 serrano peppers, finely chopped (or use jalapenos for milder guac)
- 2 cloves garlic, pressed
- 1/2 tsp sea salt, or to taste
- 1/4 tsp ground black pepper, or to taste
- 1/2 tsp ground cumin
Instructions
- Prepare the Avocados: Cut avocados in half, remove the seeds, and scoop the flesh into a flat-bottomed bowl. Use a potato masher or fork to smash the avocados to your desired consistency. Immediately squeeze freshly squeezed lime juice over the smashed avocado to prevent browning and add a tangy flavor.
- Add Onion and Peppers: Finely chop the white onion and serrano peppers (removing seeds if you prefer less heat). Add them to the bowl with the mashed avocado and stir gently to combine.
- Incorporate Tomatoes: Cut the tomato in half, remove the seeds by gently squeezing or using a spoon, then dice it finely. Add the diced tomatoes to the avocado mixture, folding them in carefully to maintain some texture.
- Add Garlic and Cilantro: Press the garlic cloves to extract the flavor and finely chop the fresh cilantro. Add both to the bowl and mix evenly to infuse the guacamole with aromatic layers of flavor.
- Season the Guacamole: Sprinkle in ground cumin, sea salt, and freshly ground black pepper. Stir well to blend all the ingredients. Taste and adjust seasoning if necessary. Serve immediately for the freshest flavor.
Notes
- To prepare ahead and prevent browning, press plastic wrap directly onto the surface of the guacamole, pushing out any air pockets, then refrigerate until ready to serve.
- For a milder version, substitute serrano peppers with jalapenos or reduce the amount used.
- Use fresh lime juice for the best flavor and color preservation.
- The amount of salt and pepper can be adjusted according to taste preferences.
