Ingredients
Scale
Sausage Layer
- 1 lb. spicy Italian sausage (ground or casings removed from links; mild can be used instead)
Alfredo Sauce
- 8 garlic cloves, minced
- 6 tablespoons butter
- 3 cups heavy cream
- 3/4 cup grated parmesan cheese
- 1/2–2 tsp red pepper flakes (depending on your preference)
- salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste
Assembly
- 2 – 10 oz bags prepared cheese-filled ravioli (like Rana or similar; choose your favorite filling)
- 3 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
- 1 tsp Italian seasoning (for topping)
- Nonstick spray (for casserole dish and foil)
Instructions
- Preheat Oven and Prepare Pan: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Spray a 2-quart (10×7 inch) casserole dish with nonstick spray. Line a baking pan with foil and place it on the lowest oven rack to catch any drips or spills from the lasagna.
- Cook the Sausage: In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the spicy Italian sausage until browned and fully cooked, breaking it into crumbles as it cooks. Use a slotted spoon to remove the sausage and set it aside in a bowl, leaving about 1 tablespoon of drippings in the pan.
- Make the Alfredo Sauce: Reduce heat to medium-low. Add butter and minced garlic to the skillet with the sausage drippings and sauté until the garlic is fragrant, about 30 seconds. Slowly pour in the heavy cream while whisking to combine with the butter and drippings.
- Simmer and Season: Add red pepper flakes and freshly ground black pepper to the sauce. Allow it to simmer gently, stirring frequently, until the cream thickens slightly, about 3-5 minutes.
- Boil Ravioli: Meanwhile, bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Cook the ravioli according to package instructions, then drain and set aside.
- Finish Alfredo Sauce: Stir the grated parmesan cheese into the cream sauce until fully incorporated. Taste the sauce and adjust seasoning with salt, pepper, and more red pepper flakes if desired.
- Assemble the Lasagna: Spread about 1/3 cup of Alfredo sauce evenly on the bottom of the prepared casserole dish. Layer half of the cooked ravioli over the sauce. Top with half of the cooked sausage, half of the remaining Alfredo sauce, and half of the shredded mozzarella cheese. Repeat these layers with the remaining ravioli, sausage, Alfredo sauce, and mozzarella cheese.
- Add Seasoning Topping: Sprinkle Italian seasoning evenly over the top layer of the lasagna. If you like extra heat, add additional red pepper flakes.
- Prepare for Baking: Cover the casserole dish tightly with foil. To prevent sticking, spray the underside of the foil with nonstick spray.
- Bake: Bake in the preheated oven for 30 minutes covered. Remove the foil and continue baking for an additional 10-15 minutes or until the edges are bubbly and the cheese on top begins to brown.
- Rest Before Serving: Allow the lasagna to rest for at least 10-15 minutes before serving to let it set and avoid a runny texture.
Notes
- If you want to make this in a larger pan, increase the Alfredo sauce by 1 cup and add another 10 oz bag of ravioli to maintain the layering.
- For milder flavor, use mild Italian sausage instead of spicy.
- Use freshly grated parmesan cheese for best flavor and smoother sauce texture.
- Spraying the underside of foil helps prevent cheese sticking during baking.
