Ingredients
Scale
Dry Ingredients
- 3 cups all-purpose flour
- 3/4 teaspoon baking powder
- 3/4 teaspoon baking soda
- 3/4 teaspoon salt
Wet Ingredients
- 1 cup butter, room temperature
- 3/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1 cup light brown sugar
- 2 eggs
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
Add-ins
- 1 heaping cup M&M candies
- ½ cup mini chocolate chips
Instructions
- Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit to ensure it’s at the right temperature when you’re ready to bake.
- Prepare Baking Pan: Line a 9×13 inch baking pan with parchment paper. This allows for easy removal of the cookie bars once baked.
- Combine Dry Ingredients: In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Set this mixture aside.
- Cream Butter and Sugars: In a large mixing bowl or stand mixer, beat the room temperature butter, granulated sugar, and light brown sugar together until the mixture is light and fluffy.
- Add Eggs and Vanilla: Add the eggs one at a time and then the vanilla extract, mixing until just combined to maintain a tender texture.
- Incorporate Dry Ingredients: Gradually add the dry flour mixture into the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined. Be careful not to overmix.
- Add M&M’s and Chocolate Chips: Fold in the M&M candies and mini chocolate chips evenly into the batter.
- Spread Dough: Press the cookie dough evenly into the prepared baking pan, smoothing the top for uniform thickness.
- Bake: Bake in the preheated oven for 22-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
- Cool and Slice: Remove the pan from the oven and allow the bars to cool completely. Once cooled, lift the bars out using the parchment paper edges and cut into 20 squares for serving.
Notes
- Make ahead: The cookie dough can be prepared 2-3 days in advance and stored in the refrigerator.
- Freezing Instructions: Baked bars can be cooled completely, cut into squares, and frozen in airtight containers for up to 3 months. Cookie dough can also be frozen for up to 3 months.
- Recipe Variations: Add chopped walnuts or pecans for a nutty crunch.
- Chip Substitutions: Feel free to substitute with other chips such as peanut butter or white chocolate chips according to your preference.
