Ingredients
Scale
Sauce and Marinade
- 1/2 cup honey
- 1/4 cup low sodium soy sauce
- 1 teaspoon fresh grated ginger or 1/4 teaspoon ground ginger
- 2 tablespoons minced garlic
- 1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes
- 1 teaspoon cornstarch
Main Ingredients
- 1 pound large shrimp, peeled, deveined, and tails removed if desired
- 2 tablespoons butter
- 2 cups broccoli, cut into bite-sized pieces
- 1 teaspoon olive oil
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
- Prepare the sauce: In a small bowl, combine honey, soy sauce, ginger, garlic, and red pepper flakes. Mix thoroughly until all ingredients are well blended.
- Marinate the shrimp: Place the peeled and deveined shrimp into a bowl and add one-third of the prepared sauce. Toss to coat evenly. For deeper flavor, marinate for 30 minutes if time allows.
- Thicken the sauce: Whisk the cornstarch into the remaining two-thirds of the sauce and set it aside for later use.
- Cook the broccoli: Heat a skillet or wok over high heat. Add olive oil and broccoli along with salt and pepper to taste. Cook for 5 to 6 minutes until the broccoli is tender but still crisp. Remove from the pan and set aside.
- Cook the shrimp: In the same skillet, add butter and the marinated shrimp, discarding excess marinade. Cook shrimp for about 2 minutes on each side until they turn pink and opaque.
- Simmer the sauce: Pour in the reserved thickened sauce and reduce heat to low-medium. Let it simmer for 2 to 3 minutes until the sauce thickens and coats the shrimp nicely.
- Combine broccoli and shrimp: Return the cooked broccoli to the skillet and toss everything together until heated through and evenly coated with the sauce.
- Serve: Serve the honey garlic butter shrimp and broccoli over cooked rice or pasta for a complete meal.
Notes
- For more flavor, marinate the shrimp for 30 minutes before cooking.
- Jumbo 16/20 size shrimp work best, but other sizes are fine; cooking time will vary slightly.
- Leaving shrimp tails on adds flavor and looks appealing, but tails can be removed if preferred.
- Fresh broccoli is recommended, but frozen broccoli can be used after thawing and patting dry.
- Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for 2 to 3 days.
