Description

This decadent Chocolate Parfait recipe layers crushed Oreos, smooth chocolate mousse, and fluffy whipped cream to create an irresistible dessert that’s perfect for any occasion. Made with simple ingredients like dark chocolate, heavy cream, and vanilla, it’s a no-bake treat that chills in the fridge to set and meld flavors beautifully.

Ingredients

Scale

Crust

  • 16 Oreos, crushed

Chocolate Ganache

  • 6 oz. dark or semi-sweet chocolate, chopped
  • ½ cup (120 ml) heavy cream

Whipped Cream

  • 2 cups (480 ml) cold heavy cream
  • ¼ cup (60 g) powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Mousse

  • Remaining ½ cup (120 ml) cold heavy cream
  • 2 tablespoons Dutch process cocoa powder

Instructions

  1. Crush the Oreos: Place 16 Oreo cookies into a ziplock bag and crush them into small crumbs, not too fine, to make them easy to layer. Set aside.
  2. Make the Chocolate Ganache: Combine chopped chocolate and ½ cup heavy cream in a microwave-safe bowl. Heat in 30-second increments, stirring between each until the chocolate is fully melted and the mixture is smooth and glossy, resembling ganache. This should take 1-2 minutes total.
  3. Whip the Cream: In a mixing bowl with a whisk attachment, combine the remaining 2 cups heavy cream, powdered sugar, and vanilla extract. Start mixing on low for 1 minute, then increase to medium speed and whip for 4-5 minutes until medium-stiff peaks form. Scoop out half of this whipped cream and set it aside for the whipped cream layer.
  4. Prepare the Chocolate Mousse: With the mixer on low speed, add the cooled chocolate ganache and Dutch process cocoa powder to the remaining half of the whipped cream. Mix gently until fully combined and glossy, creating the chocolate mousse layer.
  5. Assemble the Parfaits: Use four 6 oz. glasses or six 4 oz. glasses. Begin by layering 1 tablespoon of crushed Oreos at the bottom, followed by 1-2 tablespoons of chocolate mousse, then 1-2 tablespoons of whipped cream. Repeat this layering 1-2 more times, finishing with a layer of Oreos on top.
  6. Chill to Set: Place the assembled parfaits in the refrigerator and chill for 3-4 hours or overnight to allow the layers to set properly. Cover each glass loosely with plastic wrap, especially if chilling overnight.

Notes

  • Storage: Ensure parfait cups are covered completely with plastic wrap to prevent drying out. Store in the refrigerator for 1-2 days. Best enjoyed within one day of assembly for optimal freshness and flavor.
  • Variations: Experiment by replacing Oreo crumbs with brownie or chocolate cake pieces, or add a cream cheese layer for a richer dessert, as suggested in the blog’s variation section.
