Ingredients
Scale
Beef Filling
- 1 lb lean ground beef
- 1 tbsp soy sauce
- 1 tbsp hoisin sauce
- 1 cup shredded carrots
- 1/2 cup chopped bell peppers
Rolls
- Fresh basil leaves (about 1 cup loosely packed)
- Rice paper wrappers (12 sheets)
Instructions
- Cook the Beef: In a medium skillet over medium heat, cook 1 lb of lean ground beef, breaking it apart with a spoon. Add 1 tbsp of soy sauce and 1 tbsp of hoisin sauce, stirring well. Continue cooking until the beef is fully browned and cooked through, about 6-8 minutes.
- Add Vegetables: Stir in 1 cup of shredded carrots and 1/2 cup of chopped bell peppers. Cook for an additional 3-4 minutes until the vegetables soften slightly but remain vibrant.
- Soften Rice Paper: Fill a large shallow bowl with warm water. Dip one rice paper wrapper into the water for about 10-15 seconds until pliable but not overly soft. Lay it flat on a clean surface.
- Assemble the Rolls: Place a small handful of the beef and vegetable mixture in the center of the softened rice paper. Add a few fresh basil leaves on top. Fold in the sides and roll tightly from one end to the other, enclosing the filling securely.
- Serve: Repeat the process with remaining rice papers and filling. Serve the Thai Basil Beef Rolls fresh as an appetizer or light meal. Optionally, serve with a dipping sauce such as sweet chili or peanut sauce.
Notes
- Use lean ground beef to reduce excess fat and keep the rolls light.
- Warm water softens the rice paper quickly; avoid soaking too long or wrappers may tear.
- Fresh basil leaves add a distinctive Thai flavor—do not substitute with dried basil.
- For a vegetarian version, replace ground beef with crumbled tofu or plant-based meat alternative.
- Rice paper wraps are gluten-free and convenient for assembling fresh rolls.
