Description

Shrimp Toast is a crispy and savory appetizer featuring finely chopped shrimp spread on bread, then fried to golden perfection. It’s a popular dim sum treat with a crunchy exterior and juicy, flavorful interior.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 8 slices white bread, crusts removed
  • 12 oz raw shrimp, peeled and deveined
  • 2 green onions, chopped
  • 1 egg white
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil
  • 1 teaspoon grated ginger
  • 1/2 teaspoon sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon white pepper
  • Vegetable oil for frying
  • Sesame seeds for topping

Instructions

  1. Place the shrimp, green onions, egg white, soy sauce, sesame oil, ginger, sugar, and white pepper in a food processor and pulse until a smooth paste forms.
  2. Cut each bread slice into triangles or rectangles.
  3. Spread a generous layer of the shrimp paste evenly over one side of each bread piece.
  4. Sprinkle sesame seeds over the shrimp topping.
  5. Heat vegetable oil in a deep skillet or wok to 350°F (175°C).
  6. Carefully fry the shrimp-topped bread pieces, shrimp side down first, for 2–3 minutes until golden and crispy.
  7. Flip and fry the bread side briefly until golden, about 1 minute.
  8. Drain on paper towels and serve hot with soy sauce or sweet chili sauce.

Notes

  • Use fresh shrimp for best flavor and texture.
  • Keep the oil at the right temperature to avoid greasy or undercooked toast.
  • You can bake the shrimp toast in the oven at 400°F (200°C) for about 10 minutes for a healthier version.
  • Serve immediately for optimal crispiness.
