Description
Shrimp Toast is a crispy and savory appetizer featuring finely chopped shrimp spread on bread, then fried to golden perfection. It’s a popular dim sum treat with a crunchy exterior and juicy, flavorful interior.
Ingredients
Scale
- 8 slices white bread, crusts removed
- 12 oz raw shrimp, peeled and deveined
- 2 green onions, chopped
- 1 egg white
- 1 tablespoon soy sauce
- 1 teaspoon sesame oil
- 1 teaspoon grated ginger
- 1/2 teaspoon sugar
- 1/4 teaspoon white pepper
- Vegetable oil for frying
- Sesame seeds for topping
Instructions
- Place the shrimp, green onions, egg white, soy sauce, sesame oil, ginger, sugar, and white pepper in a food processor and pulse until a smooth paste forms.
- Cut each bread slice into triangles or rectangles.
- Spread a generous layer of the shrimp paste evenly over one side of each bread piece.
- Sprinkle sesame seeds over the shrimp topping.
- Heat vegetable oil in a deep skillet or wok to 350°F (175°C).
- Carefully fry the shrimp-topped bread pieces, shrimp side down first, for 2–3 minutes until golden and crispy.
- Flip and fry the bread side briefly until golden, about 1 minute.
- Drain on paper towels and serve hot with soy sauce or sweet chili sauce.
Notes
- Use fresh shrimp for best flavor and texture.
- Keep the oil at the right temperature to avoid greasy or undercooked toast.
- You can bake the shrimp toast in the oven at 400°F (200°C) for about 10 minutes for a healthier version.
- Serve immediately for optimal crispiness.
