Roasted Parmesan Creamed Onions are tender, caramelized onions baked in a rich cream sauce and topped with melted Parmesan cheese. This savory side dish pairs perfectly with holiday roasts or any comfort meal.

- 2 lbs small yellow or pearl onions, peeled
- 2 tbsp olive oil
- Salt and black pepper to taste
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese, divided
- 1/4 tsp ground nutmeg (optional)
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tbsp unsalted butter
- Fresh parsley, chopped, for garnish
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease a baking dish with butter.
- Toss the peeled onions with olive oil, salt, and pepper. Spread them in a single layer on a baking sheet and roast for 25-30 minutes, until softened and lightly caramelized.
- Meanwhile, in a saucepan, heat the heavy cream with minced garlic, nutmeg (if using), and half of the Parmesan cheese. Simmer gently for 3-4 minutes until slightly thickened.
- Transfer the roasted onions to the prepared baking dish and pour the cream mixture over them.
- Sprinkle the remaining Parmesan cheese evenly on top.
- Bake for 20-25 minutes until the sauce is bubbling and the cheese is golden brown.
- Garnish with chopped parsley before serving.
Notes
- Use pearl onions for a more elegant presentation.
- You can prepare this dish a day ahead and bake just before serving.
- For extra flavor, add a handful of breadcrumbs mixed with Parmesan on top before baking.
