Description

A vibrant and wholesome Mediterranean Bowl combining fresh mixed greens, juicy tomatoes, refreshing cucumber, crispy falafels, warm pita, tangy feta, and rich tahini sauce for a satisfying and nutritious meal.

Ingredients

Scale

Salad Base

  • 1 cup mixed leaves
  • 1 tomato, cut into wedges
  • cucumber, diced

Main Components

  • 4 falafels
  • ½ pita bread, warmed
  • ¼ cup feta cheese, diced or crumbled
  • 6 olives

Condiments and Garnishes

  • 3 tablespoons hummus
  • 1 tablespoon pickled red onions
  • 2 lemon wedges
  • 1 pinch parsley, chopped
  • 3 tablespoons tahini sauce

Instructions

  1. Prepare the salad base: Rinse and dry the mixed leaves thoroughly. Wash the tomato and cucumber, then cut the tomato into wedges and dice the cucumber into small pieces.
  2. Warm the falafels and pita: Heat the falafels according to the package or homemade recipe instructions, typically in a skillet or oven until crispy and heated through. Warm the pita bread by placing it in a dry skillet over medium heat or briefly in the oven until soft and warm.
  3. Assemble the bowl: In a serving bowl, layer the mixed leaves as the base. Arrange the tomato wedges and diced cucumber over the greens.
  4. Add falafels and pita: Place the warm falafels on top of the salad, then tear or cut the warmed pita and add it alongside the bowl’s contents.
  5. Include cheese and olives: Sprinkle the diced or crumbled feta cheese evenly over the salad. Add the olives throughout the bowl for bursts of flavor.
  6. Top with condiments: Spoon the hummus and tahini sauce over or around the bowl as preferred. Add the pickled red onions on top to add a tangy contrast.
  7. Garnish and serve: Sprinkle chopped parsley on top for freshness and garnish with lemon wedges to squeeze over just before eating. Serve immediately to enjoy the varied textures and vibrant flavors.

Notes

  • Use fresh and ripe vegetables for the best flavor.
  • Falafels can be baked or fried depending on preference and time available.
  • The tahini sauce can be thinned with a little water or lemon juice if too thick.
  • This bowl can be made vegetarian and gluten-free if using gluten-free pita and falafel.
  • Adjust the amount of hummus and tahini to suit your taste and dietary needs.
