Description

A soft and buttery marble loaf cake with beautiful swirls of vanilla and chocolate flavors. Perfect for tea time, breakfast, or as a simple yet elegant dessert.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 3/4 cup unsalted butter (softened)
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 3 large eggs (room temperature)
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup milk (room temperature)
  • 1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 2 tablespoons hot water

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and line a 9×5-inch loaf pan with parchment paper.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt. Set aside.
  3. In a large bowl, beat butter and sugar until light and fluffy, about 2–3 minutes. Add eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition, then mix in vanilla extract.
  4. Gradually add the dry ingredients alternately with milk, beginning and ending with the dry ingredients. Mix until just combined.
  5. In a small bowl, mix cocoa powder and hot water to form a smooth paste. Stir 1/3 of the batter into the cocoa mixture.
  6. Spoon half the plain batter into the loaf pan, then add the chocolate batter on top, followed by the remaining plain batter. Use a knife or skewer to swirl the batters together for a marble effect.
  7. Bake for 50–60 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. Cool in the pan for 10 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

  • Do not over-swirl the batters or the marble effect will blend too much.
  • Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days.
  • Add chocolate chips for an extra indulgent version.
