This Hot Honey Feta Chicken recipe combines juicy, spiced chicken thighs or breasts with a deliciously sweet and spicy hot honey sauce, topped with creamy crumbled feta and fresh herbs. Perfect for a flavorful weeknight dinner, the dish can be cooked either by searing on the stovetop or roasting in the oven, then finished with a tangy, spicy honey sauce that complements the savory chicken beautifully.

Ingredients

Scale

For the Chicken

  • lbs boneless, skinless chicken thighs or breasts
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • ½ teaspoon onion powder
  • ½ teaspoon cumin
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice

For the Hot Honey Sauce

  • ¼ cup honey
  • 12 teaspoons chili flakes (adjust for spice level)
  • 1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar or lemon juice
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil or butter
  • 1 garlic clove, minced
  • Optional: pinch of cayenne for extra heat

For Finishing

  • ½ cup crumbled feta cheese
  • Fresh parsley or mint, chopped
  • Lemon zest or a squeeze of lemon juice
  • Optional: toasted sesame seeds or red pepper flakes

Instructions

  1. Season and Marinate: Place the boneless, skinless chicken thighs or breasts on a clean plate or bowl. Rub them with olive oil and lemon juice, then coat evenly with paprika, garlic powder, cumin, onion powder, salt, and black pepper. Let the chicken sit for 10 to 15 minutes to absorb the zesty flavors.
  2. Sear or Bake the Chicken: For stovetop cooking, heat a skillet over medium-high heat and add a drizzle of oil. Sear the chicken for 5–6 minutes on each side until golden brown and cooked through. Alternatively, preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C), place the seasoned chicken in a baking dish, and roast for 20–25 minutes until fully cooked.
  3. Make the Hot Honey Sauce: While the chicken cooks, combine honey, chili flakes, minced garlic, apple cider vinegar or lemon juice, and olive oil or butter in a small saucepan. Warm the mixture gently over medium heat for 2–3 minutes until it begins to bubble slightly. Add a pinch of cayenne pepper if you desire extra heat, then stir well.
  4. Finish and Garnish: Once the chicken is fully cooked, spoon the hot honey sauce generously over the top. Sprinkle crumbled feta cheese over the hot chicken so it softens into the sauce. Finish with chopped fresh parsley or mint, a dash of lemon zest or a squeeze of lemon juice, and optional toasted sesame seeds or red pepper flakes for added flavor and texture.

Notes

  • This chicken is excellent served over couscous, quinoa, or mashed sweet potatoes.
  • For a vegetarian variation, replace the chicken with roasted cauliflower or thick slabs of halloumi cheese.
  • You can also slice the cooked chicken and serve it in warm pita bread with arugula and yogurt sauce.
