Ingredients
Scale
Puff Pastry Base
- 1 sheet puff pastry (thawed but still cold)
Toppings
- ⅓ cup jam or preserves (apricot or sour cherry recommended)
- 3 ounces crumbled goat cheese
- 4 sprigs fresh thyme, leaves separated into small pieces
Instructions
- Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) to ensure it’s hot and ready for the puff pastry.
- Prepare Puff Pastry: Lightly flour your work surface and roll out the thawed puff pastry sheet to smooth out creases. Cut the puff pastry into bite-sized squares or rectangles, about 2×2 inches.
- Add Toppings: Place the cut puff pastry pieces on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Spread a small amount of jam on each piece, followed by crumbled goat cheese on top. Sprinkle the fresh thyme leaves evenly over each appetizer for an herby finish.
- Bake: Place the baking sheet in the preheated oven and bake for 12-15 minutes until the pastry is puffed golden brown and the cheese is slightly melted.
- Cool and Serve: Remove the appetizers from the oven and allow them to cool slightly on a wire rack before serving warm or at room temperature.
Notes
- Keep the puff pastry cold until ready to bake; this ensures maximum puffiness.
- You can use any jam flavor you prefer, but apricot and sour cherry complement goat cheese really well.
- Fresh thyme adds a nice aromatic balance but can be omitted if unavailable.
- These appetizers are best served fresh but can be reheated briefly in the oven.
