Description

Made with fresh apple slices coated in a cinnamon-sugar panko breadcrumb crust, these apple fries are air fried to a perfect golden crisp. They are delightful when served with a caramel sauce or vanilla yogurt for dipping, making for a sweet, crunchy treat that’s perfect for dessert or a fun snack.
Ingredients
Scale
Apple Fries
- 2 large apples (Granny Smith, Honeycrisp, or your favorite variety)
- 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
- 2 large eggs, beaten
- 1 cup panko breadcrumbs (or regular breadcrumbs)
- 2 teaspoons cinnamon
- 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
- Cooking spray
Dipping Sauce
- 1/2 cup caramel sauce (optional)
- 1/2 cup vanilla yogurt (optional for a lighter option)
Instructions
- Prepare the apples: Wash and core the apples, then slice them into fry-shaped sticks about 1/2 inch thick. Set aside.
- Mix dry coating: In one shallow bowl, combine the all-purpose flour. In a second shallow bowl, beat the eggs. In a third shallow bowl, mix the panko breadcrumbs with cinnamon and granulated sugar.
- Coat the apple slices: Dredge each apple slice first in the flour, tapping off any excess. Next, dip it into the beaten eggs, and finally coat it thoroughly with the cinnamon-sugar panko mixture. Place coated apple slices on a plate or tray.
- Preheat the air fryer: Spray the air fryer basket lightly with cooking spray and preheat it to 375°F (190°C) for 3 minutes.
- Air fry the apple fries: Arrange the coated apple slices in a single layer in the air fryer basket, making sure they don’t overlap. Lightly spray the tops of the apple fries with cooking spray to help them crisp up. Cook at 375°F (190°C) for 10-12 minutes, flipping halfway through, until golden brown and crispy.
- Prepare dipping sauces: While the apple fries cook, prepare the optional dipping sauces by placing caramel sauce in a bowl and vanilla yogurt in another if desired.
- Serve: Remove the apple fries from the air fryer and serve warm with your choice of caramel sauce or vanilla yogurt for dipping.
Notes
- For extra crispiness, use panko breadcrumbs instead of regular breadcrumbs.
- You can substitute granulated sugar with brown sugar for a richer flavor.
- Make sure not to overcrowd the air fryer basket to allow even cooking and crisping.
- Any crisp apple variety works well; Granny Smith provides a tart contrast while Honeycrisp offers sweetness.
- For a vegan version, substitute eggs with a plant-based egg replacer and use vegan caramel or yogurt alternatives.
