Description

This Cajun Steak Tips recipe features tender, bite-sized sirloin or ribeye steak pieces seasoned with bold Cajun spices, seared to perfection, and served over a creamy Parmesan and garlic-infused rigatoni pasta. The rich heavy cream sauce combines with melted cheeses for a comforting, flavorful dish perfect for an indulgent weeknight dinner or special occasion.

Ingredients

Scale

Steak and Seasoning

  • 1 lb steak tips (sirloin or ribeye), cut into bite-sized pieces
  • 1 tbsp Cajun seasoning (plus more to taste)
  • Salt and black pepper to taste
  • 1 tbsp olive oil

Pasta

  • 10 oz rigatoni pasta

Sauce

  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 3/4 cup freshly grated Parmesan cheese
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced
  • 2 tbsp butter (divided)
  • 1/2 cup shredded mozzarella or Fontina cheese (optional)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Pasta: Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Add the rigatoni pasta and cook according to package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside, reserving some pasta water.
  2. Season the Steak: In a bowl, toss the steak tips with Cajun seasoning, salt, and pepper to ensure they are evenly coated with the spices for maximum flavor.
  3. Sear the Steak: Heat olive oil and 1 tablespoon of butter in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the seasoned steak tips in a single layer, making sure not to crowd the pan. Cook for about 2-3 minutes per side, until browned and cooked to desired doneness. Remove steak from pan and set aside.
  4. Make the Sauce: In the same skillet, reduce heat to medium. Add the remaining 1 tablespoon of butter and minced garlic. Sauté the garlic for about 1 minute until fragrant but not browned. Pour in the heavy cream and bring to a gentle simmer.
  5. Add Cheese and Combine: Stir in the grated Parmesan cheese until melted and the sauce thickens slightly. If the sauce is too thick, add reserved pasta water a little at a time to reach desired consistency.
  6. Combine Pasta and Steak: Return the seared steak tips to the skillet with the sauce. Add the cooked rigatoni and toss gently to coat all ingredients in the creamy Cajun sauce. Cook together for 1-2 minutes to meld the flavors.
  7. Optional Cheese Topping: Sprinkle the shredded mozzarella or Fontina cheese over the dish. Cover the skillet briefly or place under a broiler to melt the cheese if desired.
  8. Serve: Taste and adjust seasoning with more Cajun seasoning, salt, or pepper if needed. Serve immediately, garnished with fresh herbs if preferred.

Notes

  • Use sirloin or ribeye steak tips for the best tenderness and flavor.
  • Adjust the Cajun seasoning amount to control the heat level.
  • Reserve some pasta cooking water to thin the sauce if it gets too thick.
  • For a lighter version, substitute half-and-half for the heavy cream.
  • Leftovers can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 2 days and reheated gently on the stovetop.
