Description

This Cranberry Walnut Baked Brie is a delicious and elegant appetizer featuring a wheel of creamy brie cheese topped with a sweet and tangy mixture of dried cranberries, orange marmalade, and honey, complemented by crunchy walnuts and fresh rosemary. It’s baked to perfection and served warm with an assortment of dippers such as apple slices, crackers, and toasted baguette slices, making it perfect for holiday gatherings or any special occasion.

Ingredients

Scale

Brie and Topping

  • 8 oz wheel brie cheese
  • 1/2 cup dried cranberries
  • 1/4 cup orange juice (approximately juice of 1 orange)
  • Zest from 1 orange
  • 1/4 cup orange marmalade
  • 1/4 cup chopped walnuts
  • 3 Tbsp honey

Garnish

  • Fresh rosemary

Dippers

  • Apple slices (preferably Honeycrisp)
  • Crackers
  • Toasted baguette slices

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven: Set your oven to 350°F (175°C) to warm up while you prepare the brie.
  2. Prepare the cranberry topping: In a small saucepan, combine the dried cranberries, orange juice, orange zest, orange marmalade, chopped walnuts, and honey. Heat the mixture over medium heat, stirring occasionally, until the cranberries soften slightly and the mixture becomes thick and syrupy, about 5-7 minutes.
  3. Assemble the brie: Place the wheel of brie on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Spoon the warm cranberry and walnut mixture evenly over the top of the brie.
  4. Bake the brie: Place the baking sheet with the topped brie in the preheated oven and bake for about 15 minutes, or until the brie is soft and gooey but not completely melted out.
  5. Garnish and serve: Remove the baked brie from the oven and garnish with fresh rosemary sprigs. Serve immediately with apple slices, crackers, and toasted baguette slices for dipping.

Notes

  • Make sure not to over-bake the brie; it should be melty but still hold its shape.
  • You can substitute walnuts with pecans or almonds for a different nutty flavor.
  • For a sharper contrast, try adding a small pinch of cayenne pepper to the cranberry topping.
  • Leftover baked brie can be stored in the refrigerator and gently reheated.
