Ingredients
Scale
Dry Ingredients
- 1 ¾ cups all-purpose flour (210g)
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- ½ teaspoon baking soda
- ½ teaspoon salt
Wet Ingredients
- ½ cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, melted and slightly cooled
- 1 cup granulated sugar (200g)
- 2 large eggs
- 1 cup buttermilk (240ml)
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
Mix-ins and Toppings
- ½ cup red and green sprinkles (jimmies style; avoid nonpareils)
- 1 tablespoon coarse sugar (optional topping)
- Additional sprinkles for garnish
Instructions
- Preheat and Prepare Pan: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease or line a standard 9×5-inch loaf pan with parchment paper for easy removal.
- Mix Dry Ingredients: In a medium bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt ensuring they are evenly combined.
- Cream Butter and Sugar: In a large bowl, whisk the melted unsalted butter with granulated sugar until the mixture is smooth and slightly creamy.
- Add Eggs and Flavorings: Beat in the eggs one at a time into the butter and sugar mixture, followed by the vanilla extract, mixing well after each addition for a smooth batter.
- Incorporate Buttermilk and Dry Ingredients: Alternately add the dry ingredients and buttermilk to the wet mixture, beginning and ending with the dry ingredients. Mix gently just until combined; do not overmix to keep the bread tender.
- Fold in Sprinkles: Gently fold the red and green sprinkles into the batter to evenly distribute the festive colors without breaking them down.
- Pour and Add Toppings: Pour the batter into the prepared loaf pan and smooth the top with a spatula. Sprinkle the optional coarse sugar and additional sprinkles evenly over the batter for a sparkly, festive finish.
- Bake: Bake in the preheated oven for 50-60 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean or with just a few moist crumbs attached.
- Cool: Allow the bread to cool in the pan for about 15 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely before slicing to preserve its texture and prevent crumbling.
Notes
- Use jimmies style sprinkles instead of nonpareils to prevent color bleeding in the batter.
- Make sure the melted butter is slightly cooled before adding to eggs to avoid curdling.
- Do not overmix the batter to keep the bread light and tender.
- Store the bread wrapped tightly at room temperature for up to 3 days or freeze slices for longer storage.
