Description

This Cheesy Chicken Crescent Bake is a warm, comforting dish perfect for an easy weeknight dinner or a family gathering. It features tender shredded chicken mixed with a creamy, cheesy sauce, all wrapped in flaky crescent roll dough and baked to golden perfection. The dish is flavorful with hints of garlic and onion powder, making it a satisfying and delicious casserole that comes together with minimal effort.

Ingredients

Scale

Chicken Mixture

  • 2 cups cooked chicken, shredded or chopped (rotisserie works great)
  • 1 can (10.5 oz) cream of chicken soup
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 cup shredded cheddar cheese (divided)

Other Ingredients

  • 1 tube refrigerated crescent rolls (8-count)
  • 1/2 cup shredded cheddar cheese (remaining, for topping)
  • Optional garnish: chopped parsley for a pop of color

Instructions

  1. Prepare Chicken Mixture: In a medium bowl, combine the shredded cooked chicken, cream of chicken soup, milk, garlic powder, onion powder, black pepper, and half of the cheddar cheese. Mix well until all ingredients are incorporated into a creamy and flavorful filling.
  2. Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) to ensure it is hot and ready for baking the crescent rolls.
  3. Prepare Crescent Rolls: Unroll the refrigerated crescent roll dough on a clean surface, separating it into the 8 individual triangles as indicated on the package.
  4. Fill Crescent Rolls: Place a generous spoonful of the chicken and cheese mixture onto the wide end of each crescent triangle. Be careful not to overfill to allow for easy rolling.
  5. Roll Crescents: Starting from the wide end, carefully roll each crescent triangle over the filling towards the pointed end, making sure the filling stays inside and the seams are sealed.
  6. Arrange on Baking Sheet: Place the filled crescents seam-side down on a parchment-lined or lightly greased baking sheet, spacing them evenly to allow for expansion while baking.
  7. Add Topping Cheese: Sprinkle the remaining shredded cheddar cheese evenly over the top of each crescent roll for a delicious cheesy crust.
  8. Bake: Bake in the preheated oven for 15-18 minutes or until the crescent rolls are golden brown and the cheese topping is melted and bubbly.
  9. Garnish and Serve: Remove from the oven, let cool slightly, then optionally garnish with chopped parsley for added color and freshness before serving.

Notes

  • If you prefer a spicier version, add a pinch of cayenne pepper or red chili flakes to the chicken mixture.
  • Leftover Cheesy Chicken Crescent Bake can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days and reheated in the oven for best crispiness.
  • For a lower-fat version, use reduced-fat cheese and a low-fat cream of chicken soup or homemade substitute.
  • You can substitute the cream of chicken soup with cream of mushroom or cream of celery soup for a different flavor profile.
  • Ensure that the crescent rolls are sealed well to prevent the filling from leaking during baking.
