Description

Cheesesteak-Stuffed Garlic Bread Loaf is the ultimate comfort food mashup — tender shaved steak, sautéed peppers and onions, and gooey provolone cheese all packed inside a crusty garlic bread loaf. It’s a hearty, cheesy, and shareable twist on a Philly favorite.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 large French bread loaf or Italian bread
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 pound shaved beef or thinly sliced ribeye steak
  • 1 small onion, thinly sliced
  • 1 small green bell pepper, thinly sliced
  • 1 small red bell pepper, thinly sliced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes (optional)
  • 1 cup shredded provolone or mozzarella cheese
  • 1/4 cup mayonnaise (optional for extra creaminess)
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 tablespoon chopped parsley (optional, for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a baking sheet with foil.
  2. Slice the bread loaf in half lengthwise, without cutting all the way through. Hollow out some of the interior to create space for the filling.
  3. In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium-high heat. Add onions and peppers; sauté for 5–7 minutes until softened.
  4. Add minced garlic and cook for 1 minute more.
  5. Add shaved beef to the skillet and season with salt, black pepper, and crushed red pepper flakes. Cook until beef is browned and cooked through, about 4–5 minutes.
  6. Optional: stir in mayonnaise for a creamier filling.
  7. Fill the hollowed bread with the beef mixture and top generously with shredded cheese.
  8. In a small bowl, mix melted butter with garlic powder. Brush the top of the loaf with garlic butter.
  9. Wrap the stuffed bread in foil and bake for 15 minutes. Uncover and bake another 5–10 minutes until cheese is melted and bubbly.
  10. Sprinkle with parsley, slice into pieces, and serve warm.

Notes

  • Use hoagie rolls instead for individual servings.
  • Swap provolone for white American, cheddar, or mozzarella.
  • Add mushrooms for an extra Philly cheesesteak touch.
  • Serve with dipping sauce like au jus or garlic mayo.
