Description
Cheesesteak-Stuffed Garlic Bread Loaf is the ultimate comfort food mashup — tender shaved steak, sautéed peppers and onions, and gooey provolone cheese all packed inside a crusty garlic bread loaf. It’s a hearty, cheesy, and shareable twist on a Philly favorite.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 large French bread loaf or Italian bread
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 pound shaved beef or thinly sliced ribeye steak
- 1 small onion, thinly sliced
- 1 small green bell pepper, thinly sliced
- 1 small red bell pepper, thinly sliced
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/4 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes (optional)
- 1 cup shredded provolone or mozzarella cheese
- 1/4 cup mayonnaise (optional for extra creaminess)
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 tablespoon chopped parsley (optional, for garnish)
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a baking sheet with foil.
- Slice the bread loaf in half lengthwise, without cutting all the way through. Hollow out some of the interior to create space for the filling.
- In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium-high heat. Add onions and peppers; sauté for 5–7 minutes until softened.
- Add minced garlic and cook for 1 minute more.
- Add shaved beef to the skillet and season with salt, black pepper, and crushed red pepper flakes. Cook until beef is browned and cooked through, about 4–5 minutes.
- Optional: stir in mayonnaise for a creamier filling.
- Fill the hollowed bread with the beef mixture and top generously with shredded cheese.
- In a small bowl, mix melted butter with garlic powder. Brush the top of the loaf with garlic butter.
- Wrap the stuffed bread in foil and bake for 15 minutes. Uncover and bake another 5–10 minutes until cheese is melted and bubbly.
- Sprinkle with parsley, slice into pieces, and serve warm.
Notes
- Use hoagie rolls instead for individual servings.
- Swap provolone for white American, cheddar, or mozzarella.
- Add mushrooms for an extra Philly cheesesteak touch.
- Serve with dipping sauce like au jus or garlic mayo.
