Description

This Cheeseburger Pigs in a Blanket recipe combines classic cocktail sausages wrapped in flaky crescent roll dough, enhanced with layers of American cheese and tangy pickle slices. Perfect as an appetizer or party snack, these bite-sized treats offer the nostalgic flavors of a cheeseburger in a convenient, handheld form.

Ingredients

Scale

Pastry

  • 1 (8 ounce) tube of crescent rolls (8 count)

Filling

  • 3 slices American cheese
  • 68 hamburger dill pickle chips
  • 24 cocktail sausages (12 ounce packet)

Topping

  • 1 egg
  • 1 tablespoon water
  • 2 teaspoons sesame seeds

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven: Set your oven to 375°F (190°C) to prepare for baking the pigs in a blanket.
  2. Prepare the crescent dough: Unroll the crescent rolls and separate them into 8 individual triangles as per the packaging.
  3. Assemble the filling: Cut each slice of American cheese into smaller strips suitable for wrapping around the cocktail sausages. Similarly, slice the hamburger dill pickle chips into pieces that can fit inside the crescent rolls along with the cheese and sausage.
  4. Wrap the sausages: Place a cocktail sausage on the wide end of each crescent roll triangle. Add a strip of cheese and a piece or two of pickle on top of the sausage, then carefully roll the dough around the fillings to the tip of the triangle, sealing the edges as much as possible.
  5. Prepare egg wash: In a small bowl, whisk together the egg and water to create an egg wash.
  6. Brush and top: Arrange the wrapped sausages on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Brush each with the egg wash generously, then sprinkle the sesame seeds evenly over them for added texture and flavor.
  7. Bake: Bake in the preheated oven for approximately 12-15 minutes or until the crescent rolls are golden brown and fully cooked.
  8. Cool and serve: Remove from the oven and let cool slightly before serving warm. Enjoy your cheeseburger pigs in a blanket as a tasty snack or party appetizer.

Notes

  • You can substitute American cheese with cheddar or your favorite melting cheese.
  • Use extra pickle chips if you prefer more tangy flavor in each bite.
  • For a spicy kick, add a small amount of mustard or ketchup inside before baking.
  • Ensure the crescent rolls are sealed well to prevent cheese from leaking during baking.
  • Pair with dipping sauces like ketchup, mustard, or ranch for extra flavor.
