Description

The Bramble is a refreshing and elegant gin cocktail blending tart lemon juice with sweet blackberry liqueur, served over crushed ice and garnished with fresh blackberries and a lemon slice. It’s a perfect balance of citrus, sweetness, and berry flavors, ideal for warm weather or any sophisticated gathering.

Ingredients

Scale

Main Ingredients

  • 1 cup ice cubes
  • 2 fluid ounces London dry gin
  • 1 fluid ounce freshly-squeezed lemon juice
  • 1/2 ounce simple syrup
  • Crushed ice (as needed)
  • 1/2 fluid ounce crème de mûre (blackberry liqueur)
  • 2 or 3 fresh blackberries
  • 1 slice lemon

Instructions

  1. Prepare the glass: Fill a rocks glass with crushed ice to chill it while you prepare the cocktail.
  2. Mix the base: In a shaker, add the London dry gin, freshly squeezed lemon juice, simple syrup, and 1 cup of ice cubes. Shake vigorously until well chilled.
  3. Strain the mixture: Strain the shaken cocktail into the prepared rocks glass filled with crushed ice.
  4. Add the blackberry liqueur: Slowly pour 1/2 fluid ounce of crème de mûre over the top of the drink to create a beautiful ‘bleeding’ effect as it trickles through the ice.
  5. Garnish: Add 2 or 3 fresh blackberries and a slice of lemon to garnish, enhancing both aroma and aesthetics.
  6. Serve: Serve immediately with a straw or a stirring stick so the drinker can mix the liqueur through the cocktail as desired.

Notes

  • Use freshly squeezed lemon juice for the best citrus flavor.
  • Simple syrup can be made by dissolving equal parts sugar and water.
  • For a sweeter or more tart drink, adjust the amount of simple syrup or lemon juice accordingly.
  • The crushed ice is key to maintaining the drink’s chilled and refreshing quality.
  • Crème de mûre is a blackberry liqueur that adds both color and sweetness; other berry liqueurs can substitute if unavailable.
