Homemade Banana Syrup
- 1 1/2 medium ripe bananas, sliced
- 3/4 cup brown sugar substitute, such as Swerve
- 1/4 cup sugar-free maple-flavored syrup, such as Pyure
- 3/4 cup water
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1/2 teaspoon banana extract
- 1/2 teaspoon maple extract
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
Latte
- 1/2 cup hot coffee
- 1/2 cup hot milk
- 3 tablespoons homemade banana syrup, or to taste
- 1/4 teaspoon banana extract
Banana Cream Foam
- 1/4 cup heavy whipping cream
- 1 tablespoon homemade banana syrup
Caramelized Bananas
- 2 teaspoons butter
- 1/2 medium banana, sliced
- 1 tablespoon sugar-free maple-flavored syrup, such as Pyure
Instructions
- Make the Banana Syrup: In a saucepan over medium heat, combine sliced ripe bananas, brown sugar substitute, sugar-free maple syrup, water, salt, and cinnamon. Bring the mixture to a gentle simmer, stirring occasionally, and let it cook for about 10-15 minutes until it thickens and the bananas soften. Remove from heat and stir in banana extract, maple extract, and vanilla extract. Strain the syrup to remove solids and let it cool.
- Prepare the Latte: Brew 1/2 cup of your favorite hot coffee. In a separate saucepan or microwave, warm 1/2 cup of milk. In a coffee cup, combine hot coffee, hot milk, 3 tablespoons of homemade banana syrup, and 1/4 teaspoon banana extract. Stir well to blend all flavors.
- Make the Banana Cream Foam: Using a mixer or frother, whip 1/4 cup heavy whipping cream with 1 tablespoon banana syrup until soft peaks form. This will create a light, flavored foam for topping the latte.
- Caramelize the Bananas: In a small skillet, melt 2 teaspoons of butter over medium heat. Add sliced 1/2 banana and cook for 1-2 minutes until golden and soft. Drizzle 1 tablespoon sugar-free maple syrup over the bananas and cook for another minute until caramelized. Remove from heat.
- Assemble the Drink: Pour the prepared latte into a serving glass. Spoon the banana cream foam on top carefully. Garnish with caramelized banana slices for a delicious finishing touch. Serve immediately and enjoy your homemade Banana Bread Latte.
Notes
- You can adjust the sweetness of the banana syrup according to your preference by adding more or less brown sugar substitute.
- For a vegan version, substitute the heavy cream with coconut cream and use plant-based milk.
- Make sure to strain the banana syrup well to avoid pulp in your latte for a smooth texture.
- The caramelized bananas add a lovely garnish but can be omitted if you prefer a simpler drink.
- For best flavor, use very ripe bananas in the syrup preparation.
